Hi! I'm Kami Wilt, director/founder of Austin Tinkering School. I started Austin Tinkering School ten years ago, after I heard this TED talk and felt strongly that a creative Maker city like Austin really needed it's own Tinkering School. I ran ATS out of my backyard for 6 years, and then ran a wonderful Makerspace on Airport Blvd for 6 years up until 2020 when the pandemic hit and I was forced to close. Thankfully I'm back up and running and am operating ATS out of my home workshop on Holly Street! I'm so thrilled that we've been able to teach thousands of kids (and lots of adults ) to use tools safely and effectively, and to support people in designing and building the projects that they think of. I think that kind of Maker, can-do attitude is an empowering attribute that kids can carry with them and use throughout their lives. I also think that tinkering promotes creativity, grit, confidence, creative problem solving, flexible thinking, a failure positive mind-set, with the added bonus that it's incredibly FUN! As the saying goes, We are ALL Makers. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to tinkering with you!
