Hi! I'm Kami Wilt, director/founder of Austin Tinkering School. I started Austin Tinkering School ten years ago, after I heard this TED talk and felt strongly that a creative Maker city like Austin really needed it's own Tinkering School. I ran ATS out of my backyard for years, and then 4 years ago we ran a Kickstarter and with the support of our amazing community we were able to move into our own Makerspace in East Austin. I'm so thrilled that we've been able to teach thousands of kids (and lots of adults ) to use tools safely and effectively, and to support people in designing and building the projects that they think of. I think that kind of Maker, can-do attitude is an empowering attribute that kids can carry with them and use throughout their lives. I also think that tinkering promotes creativity, grit, confidence, creative problem solving, flexible thinking, a failure positive mind-set, with the added bonus that it's incredibly FUN! As the saying goes, We are ALL Makers. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to tinkering with you!
